We are looking for new members for our freedom of press / democratic debate project at Global Aktion (former Afrika Kontakt)
For the past year, we have been supporting Mozambican journalists, scholars and activists in the creation of an alternative independent media platform
We are looking for more volunteers/activists that have a little sparetime and will to join!
For a democracy to be vibrant and functional, its citizens must have access to knowledge that willallow them to make informed decisions; in the polling station and beyond. In Mozambique, the availability of relevant information, press freedom and freedom of expression has been shrinking significantly in recent years. Persons critical of the government are exposed to threats and intimidation and sometimes worse.
This intervention - the Mozambican Platform for Democratic Debate - seeks to address this issue by creating an online-based platform that will act as a secure space for Mozambicans to seek and share information and views on political issues and participate in debate about thesesame issues. The platform will facilitate inclusion of civil society in the discussion and choice of the country’s development strategy. The objective is to empower Mozambican civil society organizations as well as ordinary citizensthrough free flow of information and to allow them to exercise their right to knowledge and opinion. The way to achieve this will be the provision of an accessible knowledge-sharing platform where users can be both readers/viewers and contributors.
As part of Global Aktion you will:
