We are looking for more volunteers for our café / meeting place at Istedgade no. 100.
Your minium age must be 22 years old. No maximum age :-)
Istedgade 100 is a resting spot for those in need. A kind of living room and home for the homeless or others who would like some home comforts.
Currently, most of our visitors are in Denmark for a period of time. They are migrants from Eastern European countries. They are in Denmark / Copenhagen to make ends meet and support their families back home by collecting bottles.
As they are homeless, we try to cover some very basic needs: heat, a roof overhead, the possibility of a bath, laundry, coffee / tea, a talk with one of us, charging a mobile phone, polishing shoes and more.
Quite simply everyday things that they have no way of taking care of while living on the streets. They have family in their home country and are up here for a few months at a time.
We also have other guests - it can be a pensioner who lives alone and would like to come over for a cup of coffee.
In addition, we have functions such as pediatrists who come every Monday and see to guests' feet for free. "Outreach" which is an outgoing team under Kirkens Korshær. They help the homeless with papers, documents, job search and more. Outreach comes in Istedgade 100 twice a week. We also sell the Strada homeless magazine.
We work with the other divisions of Korshær, as well as others who help the homeless. This includes close cooperation with shelters and emergency shelters.
As a volunteer, you can focus on the work with our guests in the cafe Istedgade 100 - and if you wish, we would be happy to contact others in this area.
We arrange excursions for our volunteers and staff. On these excursions we go around to other meeting places, shelters, soup kitchens etc.
