Then seize the opportunity and become a teacher at the Oxfam IBIS Spanish school Aarhus 2020!

This fall we are going to start a Spanish school where volunteers teach Spanish to all interested in and around Aarhus.

As a teacher, you can both get to teach participants with no previous knowledge of Spanish. They will start from scratch with introductions to grammar and pronunciation as well as small talking exercises. Or maybe there will be participants that have some knowledge of Spanish from e.g. school or travel who needs help refreshing some gramma and/or to build their vocabulary. There can also be a need for a conversation level held in Spanish where your role as a teacher is to keep the conversation going and to come up with interesting topics for debates. It's not required you can teach at every level, we can also use teachers who mainly wish to organize and teach on one or two specifics levels. As a teacher, it is required that you are fluent in writing and speaking Spanish. It is not a requirement that you have experience in teaching, which makes it a good opportunity to try teaching if this is a path you are considering.

As a volunteer, you will be in charge of planning the classes together with the other volunteers. Here you have to prepare the material for the students to work on in class. The idea is that there at the beginning of each class, will be a short presentation focused on the cultural, political or other interesting topics related to Spanish speaking countries and Oxfam IBIS work in Latin America. This presentation will be made either from someone invited from the outside or from one of the volunteers. The topic of the presentation can be used as a base for teaching the different levels. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to shape the Spanish school using your own experience and interests.

You get:

  • Teaching experience in an informal environment
  • Experience in planning a teaching program
  • Experience with holding smaller events
  • A chance to practice your Spanish and stay informed about current events in Latin America
  • A wide network of others who share an interest in Spanish and Latin America

We expect:

  • That you want to share your knowledge in an informal environment
  • That you want to join a volunteer community

The Oxfam IBIS Spanish classes will take place during the fall with start in mid/late September.

There will be a start-up meeting for all the volunteer teachers on the 18th of August at 17.00 (more info will follow). Here you will meet the rest of the team and you will begin to plan the Oxfam IBIS Spanish School in Aarhus Fall 2020

If you are interested send a short application with a few words about yourself and what level you would like to teach. We look forward to welcoming you as a volunteer!
