At Det Kærlige Måltid, we prepare and cook meals for families that are affected by temporary life-threatening illness, or trauma. As a young volunteer, you are lending a helping hand to families who really needs it. Moreover, you will become a part of the great community in the kitchen, where both serious and fun matters are on the agenda.
Besides the other young volunteers, you will meet a kitchen leader who is equipped with the recipes that the team will cook together. She also brings all her best tips and tricks which she cannot wait to share with you. Perhaps you need help to impress a date, maybe the in-laws are visiting, or maybe you just want to cook a cozy meal for a group of friends? No matter what cooking level you are at and what cooking-skills you wish to master, you will definitely learn something new as a volunteer at Det Kærlige Måltid – while helping others. If you are not convinced yet, you should also know that we have several social gatherings, where we for instance eat dinner together. What’s not to like?
It is not relevant whether you have experience with cooking or not. Instead, we value that everyone come with an open and curious mind and that you are thriving in a community with many smiling people.
Kitchen days are Tuesdays (15:00-18:30) and Wednesdays (15:00-17:30). If you can only meet in later due to school, jobs, or something else, it is completely okay with us. The kitchen (which is your workplace) is located in FO Byen at Vester Allé 8A, 8000 Aarhus C. You will choose your own shifts through a closed group on Facebook. We are a Danish organization, but we would love to welcome international volunteers. However, we hope that you speak a little Danish or wish to learn, as our recipies are in danish as well as it will ensure a stronger bond to the rest of your team.
There is no period of commitment as it is a voluntary job. However, we hope that you will be here on a regular basis especially during the first three months, which will help you to become familiar with all the corners of the kitchen. Lastly, it is possible to increase your responsibility in the kitchen as you go, if that is something you wish – maybe you will even get to control the music playlist.
