About Fritidskorpset

The leisure corps is an effort in DRC Danish Refugee Council, where volunteers support parents with a refugee background in getting their children well into the local association life. As a volunteer in the Leisure Corps, you will be connected to a family that needs support to start an association or to choose a good leisure activity.

It may be that the family or child has never been a member of an association before, that they need help to understand messages from the coach, or that they need support to get started or resume an activity. Your role as a volunteer will be to support the family's relationship to association life, where they need an extra hand or a guiding talk. So there is no meeting or office time, but instead an expectation that you are flexible and have room for a quick chat as needed. The last mandatory follow-up with the family takes place after 6 months.

Your tasks as a volunteer can be to:

  • Meet with the family and uncover their needs in relation to association start-up.
  • Follow the child and the parents to the association the first 1-3 times.
  • Talk to the parents about how the child is doing in the leisure activity.
  • Talk to the parents about what the association expects of them as parents.
  • Talk to the association about how you can welcome new families together.
  • Share your own experiences of being a volunteer or association activist, e.g. for parent evenings in the association or at school.

As a volunteer bridge builder in the leisure corps, you get:

  • Opportunity to make a difference for families in need of support.
  • Training days on cross-cultural bridge building and the role of association life in integration
  • Upskilling of your own competencies within dialogue tools and the empowerment method.
  • A social community with other like-minded volunteers
  • Access to DRC Danish Refugee Council's other offers and membership rights.
