Are you a law student, lawyer or do you have other experience with legal advice through employment or education, then you might want to become a volunteer in Caritas Legal Aid?
Caritas Legal Aid is a newly started project that offers legal advice in the area of immigration law. The advice is free and does not require an appointment. The counseling is run by volunteers who contribute their time and skills - preferably one shift per month.
The counseling is open to anyone with a need for immigration law counseling - and who does not have the resources to seek counseling. We want to ensure that the rights of foreigners are met and to ensure equal access to information and knowledge about one's own residence basis, status and opportunities within residence permits, education, EU citizens etc.
The counseling service is a fairly new project and opened in March 2022 and looks forward to establishing a competent and committed volunteer team that can be the solid foundation during the counseling. Caritas Legal Aid is open for attendance one evening and one afternoon a week - Wednesday from kl. 5-7 pm and Saturdays from 11am -1pm. The counseling is located centrally in Vesterbro and therefore ensures easy access for the target group.
We are looking for volunteers:
The project is organized under Caritas Denmark and collaborates with Caritas' other national initiatives as well as with other organizations working with the target group. The day-to-day operation is ensured by a steering group, which has the practical responsibility for the project's execution as well as documentation and evaluation. In addition, the project has a legal consultant who will be available during the opening hours of the counseling service and act as a rear guard for the volunteers. In this way, volunteers can receive sparring and guidance from the consultant, and the advice is quality assured to ensure that users of Caritas Legal Aid receive the best possible help in their situation.
It is a requirement to be able to obtain a clean criminal record, to give a commitment to obtain a child certificate, to be aware that the counseling is subject to a duty of confidentiality and to be able to sign Caritas Denmark's policies. All volunteers enter into a volunteer contract with the project.
