About Fritidskorpset

The leisure corps is a project in DRC Danish Refugee Council, where volunteers help refugee children and their families to become part of the local association life. As a volunteer in the Leisure Corps, you will be connected with a family who needs support to start an association.

It may be that the family or child has never been a member of an association before, that they need help to understand messages from the coach, or that they need support to get started or resume an activity.

Your tasks as a volunteer can be to:

  • Meet with the family and uncover their needs in relation to association start-up
  • Help the parents find out the practical things like registration, driving and the like.
  • Follow the child and the parents to the association the first 1-2 times if needed
  • Talk to the parents about how the child is doing in the leisure activity
  • Talk to the parents about what the association expects of them as parents
  • Talk to the association about how you can welcome new families together
  • Share your own experiences of volunteering or being active in associations, e.g. for parent evenings, in the association or at school.

As a volunteer in Fritidskorpset, you get:

  • Opportunity to make a difference for families in need of support
  • Training days on cross-cultural bridge building and the role of association life in integration
  • Upskilling of your own competencies within dialogue tools and the empowerment method.
  • A social community with other like-minded volunteers
  • Access to DRC Danish Refugee Council other courses and membership rights.
