The Red Cross Cafés is a new offer under the Red Cross Capital, which aims to create a safe and nice space for everyone who is new to Denmark. The cafés function as a social meeting place for both children and adults, where the volunteers set up meaningful gatherings, initiate activities with the children, are helpful with informal questions about everyday life in Denmark and practical questions. In addition, the cafés provide the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation and create a network in Denmark.

The cafés take place in the Red Cross Capital's two cozy network houses in Nørrebro and in Tårnby. You do not have to be connected in both places.

The cafes are open four times a week for three hours. The desire is to have a duty officer at each café. We are therefore looking for 5-6 energetic volunteer guards.

Your duties as a duty officer

As the person in charge of the shift, the core task is to take care of the practical preparations for a café and to coordinate and motivate the volunteers so that together you can support the café's guests in the best possible way. This includes:

  • To open and close the café
  • To have an overview of what needs to be done before the café's guests arrive (preparation, shopping, printing)
  • To motivate the volunteers to actively participate in the café, eg start games with children, shop and prepare coffee and snacks
  • To welcome new volunteers and introduce them to the house and tasks
  • To write a brief status of how the café went

You will be part of a guard group that will meet for sparring and experience meetings.

As a duty officer, it is important:

  • That you are organized, like to coordinate and are good at communicating
  • That you can participate in one café a week, ie. can set aside approx. four hours a week for the task
  • That you are enterprising, trustworthy and patient
  • That you can speak and understand Danish and English

We offer you:

  • To become part of a new effort in the Red Cross Capital
  • To gain experience with coordination, organization and specific knowledge in the field of integration
  • Ongoing sparring with other shift managers and activity leaders
  • Exciting and qualifying courses around e.g. leadership of volunteers, the psychosocial method, psychological first aid, humanity in practice etc.
  • A large network of volunteer enthusiasts in the Red Cross Capital
  • Social activities for volunteers in the Red Cross Capital, i.a. the annual summer party
