At Selvhjælp Silkeborg, we create groups where boys who have difficulty getting to school meet others in similar situations and help each other further in life. In this context, you can now become a group leader and help children who are having a hard time, at the same time as you develop professionally and become part of a large community.

As a group leader, you must, together with another experienced volunteer, facilitate a self-help group that meets approx. two hours weekly for ten weeks. You yourself help decide what you do in the group in collaboration with an employee of the association. After finishing the group course, you can assess whether you want to continue.

Your tasks as group leader:

  • To listen and talk to boys in difficult situations about both easy and difficult things in their everyday life
  • Using different tools, exercises, games, games, YouTube clips or the like to help the boys put their thoughts, feelings and experiences into words
  • To create a safe space where it is nice for the boys to come

We expect you to:

  • Has the desire and energy to work with boys in difficult situations and can accommodate the frustrations and dilemmas they face
  • Is appreciative and present and can help create a safe and confidential space for the group
  • Is responsible and is good at listening

We offer you:

  • A training course that will prepare you for the task
  • Regular supervision
  • A seminar where you learn about worrying school absenteeism and about the project Fyr opp for Fællesskab, which the groups are part of
  • Possibility of exciting courses
  • A meaningful voluntary work where you help other people
  • A collaboration with other volunteers who are passionate about the same things as you
  • A place where you can gain knowledge, expertise and experience
  • Inspirational evenings with various exciting presentations and speakers and summer/Christmas party
  • To become part of a voluntary network, and of the country's largest self-help association
  • Possibility to lead groups for other target groups in the long term

It is not a requirement that you have experience/professionalism in the field. We are interested in you as a person, so we look more at your personal qualifications.

Part of a larger project

The new groups are part of a larger project, supported by the AP Møllerske Støttefond and carried out in collaboration with the School Administration in Silkeborg Municipality. The project increases the well-being of boys with school refusal to help them return to school. As a volunteer group leader, you are automatically involved in testing new solutions and creating new knowledge regarding boys who refuse to go to school - a highly topical field where there is a huge need for both. As a volunteer, you will of course also be offered an insight into the project's results and thus gain both practical and theoretical insight into the problem of school refusal.
