The Youth Red Cross is in need of volunteers who want to provide online study support to inmates in Sdr. Omme prison.
Inmates in Danish prisons have the opportunity to take an education while serving their sentence. But it can be really difficult to take care of your studies when you are in prison. That is why the Youth Red Cross offers voluntary study support to inmates through the concept of "Student Prisoners". As student support, you meet with the inmate online approx. once a week and help with homework, exam preparation, study planning, motivation and everything else that is difficult when you have to take an education behind closed doors.
We are looking for you who can help with one or more subjects at HF level, such as Danish, English, history, geography, mathematics, physics or biology. We are currently particularly short of study grants in mathematics at c and b level. You may be a student yourself or have recently been, and you want to help another person get on well in life. As a volunteer, you will receive a thorough introduction and participate in a mandatory training day to prepare for the meeting with the inmate and the prison.
To become a voluntary student grant, you must:
Send an application in which you briefly describe yourself, why you want to join and which subjects you can provide study support in. Then you will hear from one of our volunteer coordinators as soon as possible.
We are looking forward to hear from you!
About Student Prisoners and the Red Cross of Youth
The Youth Red Cross is Denmark's largest humanitarian youth organization with more than 3,000 volunteers who every year do activities for 5,000 children and young people across the country.
Studies show that education is one of the most effective ways to prevent recidivism. Education helps both ex-prisoners into work after serving their sentence, and it also keeps the inmates busy while they are inside. URK wants to help strengthen the inmates' opportunities in society and motivate them to pursue career paths other than the criminals.
