The mental unhappiness among rejected asylum seekers in Denmark is growing worryingly. Long waiting times for decisions in asylum cases, increasing focus on repatriation, an increasing number of withdrawals of residence permits and a lack of rewarding communities, help to push the mental state. WeTalk is a conversation course developed to strengthen the mental health of rejected asylum seekers and create meaningful communities across generations and backgrounds.
As a volunteer in WeTalk, you become part of a committed volunteer team that facilitates conversation sessions for a small group of rejected asylum seekers at Center Avnstrup. A WeTalk course consists of six conversation sessions of 2-3 hours duration, where we work on topics that promote mental well-being. The topics can be stress management, conflict management, self-motivation and active living.
In WeTalk, you are 2-3 volunteers who together plan and facilitate the sessions. During the process, you get sparring and receive supervision, so we ensure that you as volunteers thrive. As a volunteer in WeTalk, you will have the opportunity to be part of a meaningful activity that creates positive change in the participants and at the same time strengthen your skills in facilitation, teaching and knowledge about the asylum system and mental well-being, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the development of WeTalk - method.
