The Danish House in Palestine (DHIP) facilitates voluntary work with our local partner organisations in Palestine. At the moment, Hakaya is looking for volunteers with a background in storytelling.

About the position: 

  • You must be at least 18 years old, but no upper age-limit
  • A skilled storyteller who can share their experience with storytelling
  • Good communication- and performance-skills
  • Be able to train and direct other storytellers
  • A degree in a relevant field such as theatre, creative writing, etc. is an advantage
  • Demonstrate experience in crafting compelling narratives for advertising purposes
  • Preferably able to volunteer for two weeks to three months 

Hakaya

Hakaya is a culmination of several years of cooperation and dialogue amongst various individuals and groups in the Arab world regarding the centrality of “stories” in individual development, and cultural growth. This project brings together artists, oral historians, storytellers, and educators in a network, residencies, workshops, and an itinerant festival which will present “storytelling” in its various forms and show how it enriches the theatre, the arts, and how it is crucial to the development of literacy and the formation of identity and intercultural dialogue.

Located in Ramallah, Palestine.

Are you considering gaining experience in art and culture in Palestine as a volunteer? The Danish House in Palestine has more than 10 years of experience in making a wide spectrum of opportunities for voluntary work in East Jerusalem and the West Bank available to young, old and everything in between.

Our new volunteer program is facilitated by us, but gives you a unique opportunity to volunteer with one of our partner organizations in an enriching learning environment - both on a personal and professional level. Our organisation's DNA is based on mutual learning, so it is essential for us that the stay benefits both the volunteer and the host organisation.

Practical information

The deadline for applications is ongoing. We will review your application together with our partner organization and get back to you with more information as soon as possible.

The Danish House in Palestine connects you with the host organization and gives you support and advice in relation to security, accommodation and travel. The price for participating in the volunteer program is 5.000DKK and includes:

  • Facilitation and coordination of your voluntary stay with one of our partner organisations
  • Pick-up and transport from the airport to your destination
  • Briefing incl. details of security, code of conduct, etc.
  • A contact person in DHIP throughout your stay
  • A lunch at the DHIP office in Ramallah
  • Help in finding accommodation
  • Ongoing security updates
  • An education tour of Hebron with a local guide
  • Participation in events and excursions
  • Individual feedback and evaluation

The length of the stay is decided together with the individual candidate. Plane-tickets are not included in the price.
