The Danish House in Palestine ( DHIP ) facilitates voluntary work with our local partner organizations in Palestine. Hakaya is currently looking for volunteers with a background in storytelling.

Regarding the position:

  • You must be 18 years of age, but there is no upper age limit
  • Experienced storyteller who can share his experience with other storytellers
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Be able to train and instruct other narrators
  • An education in a relevant field such as theatre, creative writing, etc. is an advantage
  • Demonstrate experience in creating compelling narratives for advertising purposes
  • Preferably able to volunteer for two weeks to 3 months


Hakaya is the result of several years of collaboration and dialogue between various individuals and groups in the Arab world regarding the importance of 'narratives' for individual development and cultural growth. The project brings together artists, oral historians, storytellers and educators in networks, workshops, housing communities and a traveling festival which presents 'storytelling' in its various forms and shows how it enriches the theater and the arts as well as how it is crucial to the development of literacy and the formation of identity and intercultural dialogue.

The Danish House in Palestine has more than 10 years of experience in providing a wide spectrum of opportunities for voluntary work in East Jerusalem and the West Bank for both young people, retired people and everything in between.

Our new volunteer program is facilitated by us, but gives you a unique opportunity to volunteer with one of our partner organizations in an enriching learning environment - both on a personal and professional level. Our organisation's DNA is based on mutual learning, so it is essential for us that the stay benefits both the volunteer and the host organisations.

The deadline for applications is ongoing. We will look at your application together with our partner organization and get back to you with more information as soon as possible.

The Danish House in Palestine puts you in touch with the host organization and gives you support and advice in relation to security, accommodation and travel. The price for participating in the volunteer program is DKK 5,000 and includes:

  • Facilitation and coordination of your voluntary stay with one of our partner organisations
  • Pick-up and transport from the airport to your destination
  • Briefing incl. security details, code of conduct, etc.
  • A contact person in DHIP throughout your stay
  • A lunch at the DHIP office in Ramallah
  • Help in finding accommodation
  • Ongoing security updates
  • An informative tour of Hebron with a local guide
  • Participation in events and excursions
  • Individual feedback and evaluation

The length of the stay is decided together with the individual candidate. Air tickets are not included in the price.
