ASHTAR Theatre

ASHTAR theatre is a Palestinian non-profit NGO founded in 1991 by two prominent Palestinian actors, Edward Muallem and Iman Aoun. Today, ASHTAR has a group of professional actors and instructors who use theatre to create social change in Palestinian civil society. The theatre offers theatre training courses for both locals and foreigners, where participants get the chance to improve their drama skills as well as engage in cultural exchange. One of ASHTAR 's specialties is forum theatre - a genre that aims to transform a normally passive audience into active and involved participants. With forum theatre, ASHTAR seeks to contribute to the creation of a free, equal and just society by using theatre as a tool to encourage marginalized groups, such as the youth and women, to become inventive, progressive and productive agents of social change, which are able to express themselves freely and communicate creatively with their environment.

Located in Ramallah, Palestine.
