Queer-to-Queer pairs a young LGBT+ person with a slightly older LGBT+ mentor. Throughout the mentoring process, you as a mentor get the opportunity to get to know the mentee, try to create a safe space where the mentee can share what is important and mirror the young LGBT+ person in some of the experiences you can have when you are part of of the minority group. You will meet approx. twice a month, goes on trips e.g. at a museum, at a board game café or at the cinema and talk to you about what kind of community the mentee would like to be a part of. Together, you seek out the offers in order to give the young person a safe and pleasant first meeting with an LGBT+ community that hopefully suits the mentee. As a mentor, you will be trained well with mentoring training, and you will become part of a mentor group with whom you can share experiences and spar. To join, you must be between 20 and 37 years old, identify as an LGBT+ person and, of course, want to get to know an LGBT+ young person, create a safe space for conversation and, not least, help them well and safely into new communities .

To be a mentor, you must:

  • Identify yourself as an LGBT+ person
  • Be between 20 and 37 years old
  • Be open and curious about other people
  • Have the desire, time and resources to commit to a 6-month mentoring process once it has started
  • Of course wanting to help and support a young LGBT+ person to find a meaningful community

Mentor training and the mentor group:

We want to make sure that you as a mentor feel well dressed. That's why we offer a mentor training, where psychologist Sølve Storm (the/them), who also works with mentoring work with young vulnerable queer people, will teach and give you both knowledge and tools for the mentor role. The mentor training is held once every six months. Together with the other mentors, we meet approx. Once a month to spar with each other regarding the specific mentoring courses and any Challenges you face. Sølve Storm comes once every six months and offers supervision, where there is an opportunity to get concrete guidance on your mentoring process. The mentor group is both a place where you can spar with each other, but is also a cozy space where we eat dinner and get to know each other.
