Who are we?
SIND Aarhus-Samsø is a local branch of SIND– the National Association for Mental Health.
We fight for better conditions for people with mental challenges and their next of kin.
What is the visitation service?
The visitation service is a visiting activity for people with mental challenges.
Our coordinator mediates contact between a volunteer visiting friend and a person who wants to receive a visit for 1-2 hours a week or every other week. The visits take place with an emphasis on equality and mutual joy in the social interaction and joint activities.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for visitors who are empathetic, open-minded, reliable and responsible. We also expect that you can commit for a minimum of six months and that you want to become a member of SIND– the National Association for Mental Health.
What to do?
As a visiting friend, you help to break the loneliness of a person with mental challenges, who misses social contact in everyday life. The task is to create a good and equal relationship by stopping by for a cup of coffee, a walk, talking on the phone or something else. As a visiting friend, you meet or talk on the phone with your match approximately once a week or every other week for one or two hours, depending on what is agreed upon.
We match our visitors with a person who shares one or more interests, and you are well dressed for the task, e.g. through an introductory course.
