About the volunteer job

Mentoring is about supporting a young person in gaining greater faith in themselves and their own strengths and future possibilities. The young people from psychiatry who need a mentor often do poorly at school, have few resources at home or lack positive role models. Therefore, you can often make a huge difference simply by being a stable supporter who listens and takes an interest in the young person.

You can do this in many ways, for example through good talks, walks, by doing homework or going to cool leisure activities together. There are many options, and you don't have to do the same thing every time. The most important thing is that you focus on the young person's wishes and that you want to make yourself available to help another person on the right path in life.

As a mentor, you basically meet with the young person 2-4 times a month in and around Esbjerg, Vejle and Aabenraa. The length of the mentoring course is basically one year. In order to achieve a safe and stable relationship, we would like you to commit for as long as possible - preferably for a year - but shorter periods are also possible.

What do you get out of being a volunteer?

  • You will have the opportunity to make a huge difference for a vulnerable young person who lacks a positive role model in his life.
  • You get mentor training and the opportunity to participate in courses and workshops where you can develop yourself and your skills.
  • You will be part of a great volunteer community in Denmark's largest humanitarian youth organization.

Who are you?

We are looking for you who are between 20 and 35 years old, have the energy to get involved in the life of one young person and have life experience that you would like to share. It is important that you are stable and will be responsible for planning and arranging meetings with the child or young person.
