Save the Children starts Madklub in Aalborg for children and families who have fled. We are looking for volunteers who want to spend time with other volunteers, where together through cooking and eating together you create a safe environment for families with children with refugee experience - right now primarily with a Ukrainian background.

The food club meets approx. once a month. The activity takes place at the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) around lunch and lasts approx. four hours. The food club is located at Vester Mariendal School in Aalborg.

As a volunteer:
Are you helping to plan and participate in pleasant moments in the kitchen together with an active and committed group of volunteers. Your tasks include to take part in the shopping, start cooking stations, cook together with the families, provide good and safe eating environments for communal eating and do games and other activities with the families. In the Food Club, you contribute to the child and the family getting support, presence and good shared experiences during a difficult time.

We offer you:

  • A meaningful volunteer job that adds gold to your CV.
  • Ongoing offers for skills development and relevant courses.
  • To become part of a meaningful community with a committed volunteer team and local association.
  • A place in the world's largest independent children's rights organization.
  • The joy of making a difference for children and families in vulnerable positions.

About you
You may have:

  • Experience in creating activities for children and families
  • A great desire to cook together
  • A creative brain that gets lots of ideas and sees possibilities rather than limitations
  • A children's specialist background such as e.g. pedagogue or teacher - or be in the process of studying children's studies
  • Experience working with families with refugee experience.

If this has caught your interest, please contact us via "Contact the Organisation" button.

The most important thing is that you want to work with children and families on the run. As a volunteer, you will be well equipped with the knowledge you need to work with this particular target group. It is not a requirement that you have great kitchen skills - everyone can join and contribute with different things, but it is a bonus if you are happy to cook and express yourself in a kitchen
