About Us
The Social Landromat (Danish:Det Sociale Vaskeri) is a social enterprise under DanChurchSocial, where all profits go towards supporting people in vulnerable situations.
As a volunteer in the sewing workshop, you will become part of a warm and inclusive community. There is always time for a good chat while working at the sewing machines, also with our volunteers who help with the laundry. We have a friendly and international atmosphere where we both speak Danish and English – and you can practice your Danish skills if you’d like. Our volunteers range from students to retirees, Danes to internationals, so there is also room for you!
The sewing workshop is a creative space where we help The Social Laundromat by sewing drawstring laundry bags. You can also create beautiful and unique tote bags from donated textiles, which are sold in our small window shop inside the laundry, along with other handmade items. The money from tote bag sales goes directly to the social work in DanChurchSocial.
Sometimes, it’s also necessary to repair the laundry’s washing bags. The sewing workshop has two sewing machines and an overlocker. You can structure the sewing work as you prefer – some volunteers cut or sew parts of the tote bags at home and come to finish them on our machines, while others do all their sewing work in the workshop. How Much Time Is Required?
The sewing workshop is open on Wednesday mornings. Volunteers typically stay for one, two hours, either every week or every other week, for example, between ten and 12 am.
Of course, we also take breaks! We enjoy sitting down together with a cup of coffee and some cake – this social time is an important part of being a volunteer at the sewing workshop and The Social Laundromat.
