Do you love to sew? The Social Laundry, Kirkens Korshær need your help

Would you like to volunteer for a few hours each week or every other week at the Social Laundry? There are always different tasks to choose from, and one of them is sewing in our sewing room.

Right now we are in need of laundry bags, which are used for clothes from homeless hostels as well as other places. These are large fabric bags with a drawstring at the top and the logo of the laundry stiched on. We also make tote bags and many other things. All made from recycled fabrics.

The Social Laundry is a social economic enterprise under the Kirkens Korshær. The profits from the Social Laundry go to the work of the Kirkens Korshær with socially disadvantaged people. Your work as a volunteer here is therefore meaningful in many ways.

The Social Laundry wash for organizations such as churches, care homes, homeless shelters and hostels, and private enterprises and it is also a regular coin-operated laundry open to private customers who come in to wash their clothes in the machines themselves. Last but not least the laundry is a safe environment for citizens who are in various stages of rehabilitation – for instance as an internship in connection with getting back into the labour market.

We have a nice atmosphere in the laundry with the opportunity of participating in social events if you want.

The Kirkens Korshær (the Church Cross Army) is a private, social and national church aid organization. Our purpose is to help socially disadvantaged and distressed people in Denmark. The Kirkens Korshær has approximately 9,000 volunteers and 450 employees and operates services such as shelters and hostels for homeless all over the country.
