Frivilligcenter Lemvig

Volunteer Center Lemvig is looking for committed volunteers to facilitate self-help groups for men who are experiencing challenges . Participants may, for example, be chronically ill, stressed or unemployed - what they have in common is the desire for a safe space to share experiences and find strength in community with other men.

What is a self-help group?

A self-help group is a confidential discussion forum where six to eight men meet weekly. It is not therapy, but a human community where experiences are shared and listening is open and respectful. Our groups will take place in nature and include simple but effective activities – e.g. cooking over a campfire or a hike in the forest – which help facilitate good conversation about life's challenges.

Your role as a volunteer group leader

As a volunteer, you will help create a safe and structured framework for the group, where both activities and conversation are important. You will be thoroughly prepared for the task through a course and ongoing sparring.

We hold courses with other sister organizations, so you will have the opportunity to meet volunteer group leaders both locally and nationally and will become part of a strong community where we learn from each other and develop the area together.

There will be mandatory courses as well as the possibility of a wide range of extra courses and opportunities to develop your skills.

Who are you?

You don't need a specific education or background to become a volunteer group leader – the most important thing is that you have your heart in it and that you want to make a difference for other men.

Maybe you can recognize yourself in some of this:

  • You have a healthcare background or experience with, for example, facilitation, self-help or natural therapy
  • You have a special energy and desire to give something away.
  • You have been in a life crisis yourself, and now want to use your experiences to support others.

Regardless of your path here, we are looking for volunteers who:

  • are men – because the groups are based on man-to-man meetings
  • are good listeners , open and ethically aware
  • thrive in nature and can see the value in conversations under the open sky
  • has the desire and energy to be a safe support for other men in vulnerable life situations

If you have experience with people and/or nature activities such as bonfires, carving or hiking, it is only a plus - but certainly not a requirement.

The practical

  • A group course lasts eight weeks with one meeting per week of two hours. You must also include some preparation time and training before starting.
  • You will meet in nature - therefore you must be able to meet at various locations in Lemvig Municipality, for example in Klosterheden
  • You only commit to one course at a time. After that, you can wait until you have time again.
  • You will receive ongoing support and sparring from Frivilligcenter Lemvig - we are with you all the way.
  • Courses and meetings are organized according to your calendar as much as possible.
