headspace Family is a conversation service for families and relatives of young people aged 12-25 who are experiencing distress. We offer both physical conversations in our centers and online in our chat – about everything from conflicts in the family to the many difficult emotions that can arise when a young person is experiencing distress.

In the headspace Family chat, it is primarily volunteers who conduct the conversations – of course with support from experienced counselors. The shifts are either morning/afternoon or afternoon/evening and last 6 hours (including breaks and sparring).

Your personal experiences mean that the people who seek help from us feel met with equal value and on an equal footing. And it gives them hope and strength to meet someone who has gone through a crisis themselves and now lives a meaningful life with the energy to help others.

We give you the tools and dress you well so you can have these conversations, learn something about yourself and, not least, help others.

All work in the headspace Family chat is in person and takes place at Hellerupvej 24, 2900 Hellerup.

What do we expect from you?

  • That you, as a family member or relative, have been close to a young person in distress
  • That you would like to have a counseling or therapeutic/healthcare background.
  • That you can see yourself chatting about a lot of different dilemmas and topics that relatives can face, for example. family conflicts, school refusal, mental illness, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. There is always an employee present in the chat and always the opportunity for guidance and support. You will be trained in handling complex and difficult conversations.
  • That you want to listen, learn, be curious and acknowledge the relatives we meet in the chat.
  • That you want to participate in training, sparring and supervision.
  • That you can contribute your time a minimum of 12 hours per month for at least one year.

We can offer you:

  • An opportunity to bring your own personal experiences to the benefit of others and at the same time learn more about yourself.
  • A social and rewarding community in the volunteer group.
  • Sparring and support – you will never be alone.
  • Experience as a volunteer.
  • To develop your written advice skills within a digital advice medium.
  • Great participation in shift planning.
