Do you want to help create safe communities where adults with ADHD can share experiences, reflect on each other and find new meaning in everyday life?

In the Self-Help Groups at Frivilligcenter Odder, we are currently looking for volunteer group leaders for a self-help group for adults living with ADHD - either as newly diagnosed or as people who have learned to navigate with a different brain throughout life.

In a self-help group, people with a common life challenge meet to share experiences, listen and reflect on each other in a confidential space – without demands for performance or “solutions”. It is precisely when we are listened to and understood that new insights and change can begin to emerge.

Your role as a volunteer group leader

As a volunteer group leader, you will help to:

  • Facilitate group conversations and create a safe environment where everyone feels seen and heard.
  • Support the group dynamics and help ensure that all participants have space and opportunity to express themselves.
  • Be present and let your own experiences with ADHD – or your empathy and curiosity – be a bridge to the experiences of others.

You don't need to be an expert in ADHD – the most important thing is that you are a person with psychological maturity who is concerned with communities, openness and equality. This is completely in line with FriSes – the Danish Association for Self-Help and Volunteering - five core values: volunteerism, equality, confidentiality, respect and responsibility .

We are looking for you who might:

  • You have ADHD yourself and have reached a place in life where you would like to pass something on.
  • Are a student, for example studying pedagogy, social work or psychology, and want to try your hand at group facilitation in practice.
  • Are you a retiree or retired person with time, experience and resources to support others?
  • Or just an ordinary person with a desire to make a difference in a meaningful community.

The practical

  • The groups meet either weekly or every 14 days, typically for 2 hours at a time, for 8–10 weeks.
  • You are not alone – there are usually two group leaders assigned to each group. There is also a project manager for self-help groups, with whom you will be able to regularly spar.
  • You will be well prepared: We offer an introduction, ongoing sparring and the opportunity to participate in the Basic Facilitation Course (Module 1 & 2 arranged by FriSe).

As a volunteer group leader, you get:

  • Course and introduction to the role of group leader.
  • Experience in facilitating group discussions.
  • An enriching voluntary community with the other group leaders
  • Opportunity for professional sparring.
  • Opportunity to develop yourself personally and as a human being.

Does that sound like something to you?

Does this sound like something for you? Then contact the project manager for the self-help groups Anita Trust for a non-binding conversation about the possibilities.
