Møbelhjælpen is a project that helps homeless people establish a home when they move from shelters to their own homes. It is an important, but often uncertain time – and here Møbelhjælpen makes a big difference.
We collect furniture and home furnishings from Copenhageners who want to give their used items a new life. The furniture is stored in our warehouse at the Kollegiet hostel in Valby until it finds a new home with a former homeless person. In this way, we help create security and homeliness in an otherwise empty apartment.
How does it work?
- We are open at the warehouse every Wednesday from 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM. As a volunteer, you will have a shift here approximately every other week. Your tasks here may include:
- Organize and prepare furniture, clothing and kitchen items so that it is easy and clear for citizens to choose the things they want
- Accept donations from citizens who pass by the warehouse
- Collect donations from citizens who are unable to deliver themselves
- Moving assistance for citizens when they move into their own home (coordinated on an ongoing basis)
We are looking for you who:
- Is stable, patient and good at keeping an overview
- Have the opportunity to put in approximately 6-8 hours per month
- Want to make a difference for people in a vulnerable life situation
- Ready to help with moves and pickups
- Want to be part of a positive volunteer community at WeShelter?
- Have a driver's license and are comfortable driving in the city - this is an advantage, but not a requirement
