As a contact person, you work voluntarily and for a period of time, with a refugee who has been granted asylum in Denmark due to persecution and war. The person must begin a new life here, learn Danish, get to know the basic functions of the community and is often very lonely.
It is a great help to have a person at hand who knows all that can show, explain and be confidence-building. Being a contact for a stranger in Denmark is volunteer work at eye level that makes sense, as it gives insight into another culture and irritates the curiosity of understanding.
As a contact person, you will be available for a meeting of approx. 1 hour duration every or every other week, either at home in the Network House or in the public space for a period of at least 6 months. The period may be longer if there is a basis for it. At best, the formal first contact may lead to prolonged contact.
During the whole course there will be the opportunity to seek guidance and answers to questions in the Network Group and in Danish Refugee Aid . If you are interested in becoming a contact person or would like to hear more about the scheme, please contact Volunteer Center & Self Help Gentofte here.
