Home-Start Family contact Odense is a voluntary social organization that supports pressed families with at least one child under school age. Our families' need for help is diverse, perhaps the family has a limited network, generally or locally, has physical or mental problems, is challenged in the labor market or affected by illness. Families need support, support and sparring.

You must have the time, the time and the profit to spend 2 hours a week with the family for at least half a year. It is important that you meet the family with positive expectations, have a look at the family resources and strengths and support based on help-to-self help. You choose which geographical area you want to support families in Odense Municipality.

Before you are offered to come out as a family friend, you have an informal meeting with one of our coordinators. Here you will find eg. out of what you want to help a family with and which families you want to look after. You also receive a 20-hour introductory course for Home-Start and the role of the family friend.

Examples of how to support the families:

  • Be an extra support for the kids / give the children and parents a free space
  • Read aloud to the children and be part of our cooperation with the library
  • Sparring on challenges in everyday life
  • Be one to talk to / listen to
  • Help with practical tasks, such as laundry, empty dishes or butter packed lunches

As a volunteer family friend in Home-Start you get:

  • Delight in seeing you make a difference for children and parents
  • Academic upgrading
  • Personal development
  • Maybe a friendship for life
  • Monthly dialogue with coordinator
  • Offered 5 yearly theme and network days and events with our other volunteers

We expect you to:

  • Have experience with children, either as a parent or through other experience
  • Have a big heart while being able to tell when needed
  • Want to be a sparring partner, a friend, and can draw on your own experiences with children.
  • Am mature, stable, responsible, open minded and accommodating

We look forward to hearing from you and if you have the slightest question, please feel free to contact us. You make a bigger difference than you think.

HOME-START Family contact is an organization where volunteers offer support, friendship and practical help to families with children under school age. The purpose is to prevent crises and breakdowns in families with young children. New family and community patterns create needs in the families for support and new contacts. Families break up, the generations live far apart, and residential areas wither socially. A family friend can make a profit, and build a new network.

Many, even very well-functioning families, occasionally lack the profits that are needed to get their everyday life connected and to prevent and solve problems in time. The opportunity to get that help is in the form of a volunteer family friend.

HOME-START wants to be the family's voice, and help create relationships in society that benefit family life. HOME START supports because young children deserve the best start in life.

HOME-START is for all families with at least one child under the age of 7. The help is free and confidential and the organization is independent of religious, political and economic interests.

Home-Start Family contact Odense was established in 2011, and came to Denmark in 2006. Home-Start was originally started in England in 1973 and has branches in 22 countries worldwide.
